The John III Sobieski Trail was created due to the noble heritage related to the Sobieski family, in particular to John III Sobieski, including both material heritage (e.g. manors, parks, places of residence and battle fields) and intangible heritage (e.g. legends, traditions, culinary recipes, memory of eminent figures living here).

The Trail of John III Sobieski, initiated in 2007 in the Lublin region, combines history with the present day. It is an interdisciplinary project being implemented jointly by local government units, non-governmental organizations and business. Geographically, it stretches from Olesko, the Kings birthplace, to Vienna, and is a new backbone for the development in the following fields: culture, education, entrepreneurship, including tourism and renewable energy sources. At the same time, it is a foundation for creating functional territorial connections involving Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria.

The Trail currently forms a new quality of life for the inhabitants of 3 voivodeships: Lubelskie, Świętokrzyskie and Podkarpackie Voivodeships, through references to noble traditions. The year 2012 saw the inauguration of projects for the John III Sobieski Trail developed in previous years. The most important among them is the program conducted by the partnership of 6 communes in the Lublin region, supported by the Swiss-Polish Cooperation Program, entitled: "Local brand as a chance of entrepreneurship development on the Knights Trail in the Lublin Region", understood as a pilot project for other regions in Europe.

Sobieski travelled almost all his life - "When we got married, we barely spent six months together, and then as if in guests or on the way", he wrote in a letter to his wife, sent from Pilaszkowice, dated April 22, 1668 and these words may be the motto of his life. You may say that he trod the Trail himself. Therefore, we invite you to follow his footsteps.
